Morning Briefing - Futures little changed with Fed's policy decision on tap
The S&P 500 futures trade five points, or 0.1%, above fair value as the market holds the line in front of the Fed's policy decision this afternoon. Yesterday, each of the major indices closed at record highs.
The Fed is expected to keep rates unchanged near zero and announce a plan to taper asset purchases after hinting at the possibility over the past few months. The FOMC policy statement will be released at 2:00 p.m. ET, followed by Fed Chair Powell's press conference at 2:30 p.m. ET.
Prior to the Fed, investors will receive the ADP Employment Change report for October (Briefing.com consensus 370,000) at 8:15 a.m. ET, the ISM Non-Manufacturing Index for October (Briefing.com consensus 61.7%) at 10:00 a.m. ET, and Factory Orders for September (Briefing.com consensus -0.1%) at 10:00 a.m. ET.
Underneath the index level, stocks continue to make big moves in response to earnings or other corporate news. Bed Bath & Beyond (BBBY 25.84, +9.05, +54.0%), for example, is up 54% after announcing the launch of a new digital marketplace and a partnership with Kroger (KR 41.12, +0.42, +1.0%).
